I have three types of basil; Green, purple and Thai. The green basil is used for Pesto, and I have five plants of it.
The purple basil is being used as a decorative plant because it has a beautiful big bushy shape, pretty pale pink flowers and smells great. I have two window boxes full of it, one at each end of the balcony.
The Thai basil was leftover from a packet of fresh herbs that we bought from the Asian grocery store. I took a cutting, placed it in water and let it grow roots. Shortly afterwards, I planted it and it has been thriving in the heat, producing lovely sweet lemony-tasting leaves.
